ADVERBS

ADVERBS

I learned that there are several types of adverb, and these are the Adverb of Manner, Adverb of Time and Adverb of Place. An adverb of manner tells us how something is done or happens. Most adverbs of manner end in –ly such as badly, happily, sadly, slowly, quickly, and others that include well, hard, fast, etc. An adverb of time tells us when something is done or happens. We use it at the beginning or at the end of a sentence. We use it as a form of emphasis when we place it at the beginning. Adverbs of time include afterwards, already, always, immediately, last month, now, soon, then, and yesterday. An adverb of place tells us where something is done or happens. We use it after the verb, object or at the end of a sentence.

SYNONYMS

SYNONYMS

I understand in this topic is synonyms, is a word with the same or similar meaning of another word. Words that are synonyms are said to be synonymous. I can be used it to make my sentence clearer and to make my statement not to redundant.

ANTONYMS

ANTONYMS

Today our topic is all about the antonyms. So what is an antonym? As I understand the discussion about these topic antonyms is the opposite meaning of a word. As for example laugh-cry, beautiful-ugly, quick-slow, rise-sink, and etc. actually I've already encounter it in my daily life.  As for example if I have a problem I know that there’s always a solution for it. And like synonyms which defined as a same meaning of a word.

CONTEXT CLUE

CONTEXT CLUE

This time I've learned context clue, is a source of information about a word that helps readers understand the word. This word or phrase offers insight, either directly or indirectly, into the word’s meaning. It can give to my sentence cleanlier.

HOMONYMS AND IDIOMS

HOMONYMS AND IDIOMS

Today our topic is all about homonyms and Idioms. It can help in my daily life to experience more excitement, and to make made a new sentence that new in the ear of others. I apply it to my make an uncommon sentence and they ask” you going to be crazy cause your speaking unnecessary sentence”. . Or I apply it for my own benefits like if I would say a bad meaning to be heard of them I change it on other word to make sure that I don’t hurt their feelings, so it’s much better. That’s the way that I can apply the lesson that they taught to us that are all and thank you.

BLENDING

BLENDING

We tackle all about blending words. It’s new for me because this is the first time I heard that word. Blends deal with the action of abridging and then combining various lexemes to form a new word. However, the process of defining which words are true blends and which are not is more complicated. The difficulty comes in determining which parts of a new word are "recoverable" (have roots which can be distinguished). It can help to my grammar and communications.

CLIPPING

CLIPPING

First of all I would like to give the meaning and some example of it. First is clipping it is a word formation process which consists in reduction of a word to one of its part also known as truncation and shortening of words. This topic can help me to determine the correct “short-cut” or to shortening of words that I want to write. So that it can be easy to write and to read. For example the word “advertisement” if I can change it into a clipping word is only a word “adv.” The second topic that we've discuss is all about a compound words, it is consists of two or more words are put together to form a new word with a new meaning. It can help me to know what the meanings can form if we combined two or more words. And also to know what the differences between the three forms of compounds and the English communication, example of the compounds word are; brother-in-law, popcorn ,per-school, mid-term ,and so on.
